A special Run/Walk for Someone committee is making plans for the event in April | Local

SYKESVILLE — The first planning meeting was held for the 2023 Run/Walk for Someone Special Saturday morning, preparing for the event coming up in April.

The Run/Walk for Someone Special benefiting Arc of Jefferson and Clearfield Counties is set for Sunday, April 16th with a rain date of Sunday, April 23rd. The board met Saturday to prepare the run, raffle and further fundraising efforts.

Pat Mowry reviewed a list of all the phone calls made as part of the preparations. A call was made to the Borough of Sykesville for permission to hold the event there again and to assign the Borough Constable to assist on the day of the event. Additionally, Sykesville Ambulance will be there for the event.

Additionally, Mowry said he spent hours on the phone with PennDOT for permission to close the road down, saying the form had been changed from years past.

A topic of discussion was the t-shirts for this year’s run and last year’s leftovers. Last year’s shirts were white with blue lettering, so it was suggested that some of them be donated to Camp Friendship for a tie. This year’s t-shirts will also be navy blue with white lettering to match last year’s and blend in throughout the run.

Board member Bill Kuba also touched on the donation letters that are sent out each year. Since the board is made up of people from all over the county and beyond, he asked everyone to review the corporate donation letter and suggest any newer businesses not on the list for possible donations.

“If you know of a business, a newer business, that would be a good idea, see if they’re here … and just put it at the bottom so we can send them over,” Cuba said.

Event sponsor levels are as follows:

Platinum – $5,000

  • This level gets the sponsor on the back of the t-shirts.
  • A plaque presented to a business representative at the event.
  • Business mentioned in all ads.
  • Company name and logo on event posters.
  • Company name on the platinum sponsor event poster and advertising space in the event brochure.
  • A social media “salute” to the business.
  • And an event banner with recognition and mile markers along the event route.

Gold – $1,000 to $4,999

  • Business mentioned in all ads.
  • Company name and logo on event posters.
  • Company name on the Gold Sponsor event poster and advertising space in the event brochure.
  • A social media “salute” to the business.
  • Mile markers along the event route.

Silver – $500 to $999

  • Company name and logo on event posters.
  • Company name on the event Silver Sponsor poster and advertising space in the event brochure.
  • A social media “salute” to the business.
  • Mile markers along the event route.

Bronze – $250 to $499

  • Company name on the event Bronze Sponsor poster and advertising space in the event brochure.
  • Mile markers along the event route.

Arc of Jefferson and Clearfield Counties Principal Carla Ferko also organized the life skills class at Punxsutawney Area High School to help stuff the envelopes for the corporate letters.

“It’s great because we always had to sit and do these here and it was a distraction,” Cuba said.

All funds raised through the event are used to provide summer camps for children and adults with special needs who live in Jefferson and Clearfield counties. These camps are held annually at Camp Friendship in Reynoldsville. The money also helps support the two recreation and leisure clubs operated by The Arc in DuBois and Punxsutawney.
